Position Summary 

The Director, Safety leads enterprise-wide health and safety strategy, ensuring organizational compliance with OSHA and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. This role is accountable for the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety programs across multiple regions and business units. The Director manages a team of regional safety managers and serves as a key advisor to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders. The role requires strong executive presence, sound judgment in complex and ambiguous environments, and the ability to build a culture of safety across a diverse, distributed workforce. 


This is a 100% Remote opportunity anywhere in the U.S.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

Strategy and Leadership 

·      Own the development and execution of enterprise-wide health and safety strategy, annual goals, and multi-year roadmaps in alignment with organizational priorities. 

·      Serve as the primary health and safety advisor to senior leadership, providing data-driven recommendations and escalation support. 

·      Drive a culture of safety accountability across all regions and business units, partnering with Operations, HR, Legal, and Facilities leadership. 

·      Lead regional safety managers and support staff, setting clear performance expectations and fostering professional development. 

Program Development and Oversight 

·      Direct the design, rollout, and continuous improvement of all safety programs, ensuring consistency and regulatory alignment across regions. 

·      Maintain and evolve comprehensive environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs as required by applicable state laws, site requirements, and business unit standards. 

·      Oversee preventative care, safety, and compliance training programs, ensuring timely completion and documented effectiveness. 

·      Establish, monitor, and report on enterprise safety metrics including incident rates, audit scores, training completion, and program ROI to senior leadership. 

Risk Management and Compliance 

·      Direct investigations and root cause analysis for near miss events, accidents, and safety escalations, with accountability for corrective action follow-through. 

·      Oversee the implementation and ongoing maintenance of Risk Assessment Plans and unplanned safety observation programs across all regions. 

·      Ensure all work is performed in accordance with approved manuals, internal policies, contract documents, and applicable engineering standards. 

·      Provide guidance to operations teams on health and safety processes, ensuring adherence to industry, local, state, and federal requirements. 

Budget and Vendor Management 

·      Develop and manage budgets for safety programs across the enterprise, including forecasting, cost control, and ROI analysis. 

·      Maintain Vendor Supplier Portals as they relate to Health and Safety information across all regions. 

·      Oversee multiple simultaneous safety initiatives, balancing resources, timelines, and competing priorities at an enterprise level.

Educational Qualifications and Experience 

Experience 

·      8+ years of progressive Health and Safety experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role 

·      Demonstrated experience managing teams of safety professionals across multiple regions or sites 

·      Employee Health and Safety (EHS) expertise required 

·      Service industry experience strongly preferred 

·      Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred 

·      In healthcare settings, required to maintain up-to-date immunizations and annual flu shots 

 

 Education 

·      Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or equivalent; advanced degree preferred 

·      Certifications in Employee Health and Safety (EHS) required; CSP, CHMM, or equivalent credentials preferred 

 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements 

Schedule 

Standard Monday through Friday work week; travel and safety escalation support on evenings, weekends, or holidays may be required based on operational needs.

·      Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus 

Environment 

·      Remote position with regular site visit requirements 

·      Site environments may present major hazards including varying temperatures, hazardous machinery, and excessive noise 

·      In healthcare facilities, may be exposed to medical waste and bloodborne pathogens 

·      PPE required as conditions dictate, including hard hat, protective boots, vests, hearing protection, gloves, jackets, and eye and face protection 

Travel 

Up to 50%, including multi-region and enterprise site visits.
